Now we’re talking! What a catch! Even with that ugly refueling probe… Wow…
yeah, not seen a refuelling probe like that before.

Yeah looks like they went down to the local plumbers merchants and bought some pipes!
@KevinJ… Yeah, it actually does.

Freshly painted 40th Anniversary schemed Phantom at Wittmund shortly after arriving from the paintbarn in April 2013.
This is the only event I really regret not attending. I’m glad you and other I know where able to document it, and the final flights of these beasts. I really should have gone though…
Those are sweet. Great to see the old camo job as well. Remember seeing them at RAF Wildenrath flying both color schemes. But in the end it was all gray…
I see a nice ANG SLUFF peeking through on the left of that gray one though. With a nice wrap around SEA paint job. Got a slide of that one?
I have the A-7D somewhere, not scanned yet. Was a nice surprise seeing it there as I knew they were deployed to Sculthorpe but couldn’t get up there, don’t think I was driving then. I made my way to Marham on a train and bus.
A couple of Missouri ANG F-4Es at home in St Louis in Feb 1987 including double MiG-21 killer 68-0338. This was a very fortunate bit of luck as I was just connecting flights there with the tour on on my first trip to the States and a few of us walked along from the terminal to the Guard base hoping to just get a peek over the fence, never expecting to get on the flightline. A guy passing by stopped and asked what we were doing and it turned out to be Chuck Stewart, author of a couple of Superbase books including Ramstein. He asked if we wanted to go in and kindly used his pass to allow us a quick walk on the ramp. One of those hreat days when luck is on your side!
Ah yeah, SL coded Phantoms. Always wanted to see those, never got to. Lovely shots and thanks for sharing these and your story. Our hobby used to rely so much on luck and coincidence. And on people who understood our passion.
Great image @roelreijne - sad I had to miss the show this year. Hope you shot some more of this one ![]()
A K64 slide of a 86th TFW/ 512th TFS Phantom at a RAF Wethersfield open house, July 21st 1984. Wethersfield is near to Stansted and used to be home to the 20th TFW and also had the first U-2 ops in the UK, long gone now.
Drool… and I’ve never heard of that base.
