McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II

Not the most exciting shot to start with, but it’s a Harrier. Shot at the 2006 Salinas airshow.

Hey, looks like Oshkosh…unless they started painted big orange dots for lost Harrier pilots to land on at Cherry Point…

Seen here getting ready to depart NAS JRB Willow Grove, Pa., on July 11, 2009 after a gas-n-go is, AV-8B+, WH-01, VMA-542, 164570. She’s one of a three-ship that day and, if you notice she has all the conflicts that 542 has been involved in stenciled on her intake.

another striking example of the AV-8B+ was seen at the 2023 air tattoo as part of the static line up. This time from the Italian Navy.

Lovely shot. Thought they were all retired by now?

2026 I believe.

Nice of them to bring back their bombs for you!

There are two USMC squadrons left. VMA-231 will stand down later this year, and as Nathan says VMA-223 will finish next year.
