Floatplanes

Shooting floatplanes is really about shooting water doing interesting things with a plane involved. Here are a few recent pics from one of my favourite places for “floaties”: Kenmore Air Harbor at the north end of Lake Washington in Seattle.

I’ve been to Kenmore a few times and always shot from the Kenmore Air dock, looks like you’ve found a better place to shoot from as they usually land a long way from the dock.

Let’s see how this app handles map locations! This is my preferred spot, Nathan. Although it’s in a private marina, it’s accessible to the public from Log Boom Park. The fishing/swimming pier in the park is also good, although more distant and crowded.

Thanks Mark!

Hey @M.M - you can embed a map from the sharing menu of Google Maps. Just copy and paste the HTML and voila.

Landing at Pease earlier this year (2024).

Time for another dose of fun on floats from Kenmore Air Harbour…

Nice light. Seems a bit of a sporty take off that first shot? Or is that a rough landing?

That’s a normal seaplane landing, Roger - it’s “falling off the step” as it slows down. I’d explain the physics, but why play to stereotypes?

Ah! Thanks for the info, and I would love to know the physics behind it

Fortunately someone already explained them, so I don’t have to. https://www.quora.com/How-do-seaplanes-not-pitch-forward-into-the-water-when-they-land
