I watched a pretty cool immersive video today. Apple released a new short film in their 180 degree immersive spatial video format, documenting US Navy carrier ops aboard the USS Nimitz.
Watching this on a Vision Pro offers a unique perspective on the hectic and dangerous world of carrier operations. Being enveloped by the environment catches both the claustrophobic vibes of a full carrier deck and its internals, as well as the vast expanse of an empty ocean sky.
The movie showcases some unique vantage points, like following the approach to landing, static air to air fly by’s and both expansive overall shots as well as personal and close up shots. It all works really well and there weren’t any shots where I felt uncomfortable or was taken out of the experience.
If you have a Vision Pro, I definitely recommend it!
I hope they follow up with a chapter on US Naval Flying ops, showing in cockpit footage of launch, the missions and recovery.
