Fence Check's back?

Hey! Here we are again, a bit older, a bit wiser (said the fool) and still shooting aircraft all over the world.

After thinking and doubting about reviving Fence Check for several years I though “F it”, fired up a server and installed this forum on it.

It’s been 20 years since I did the same thing, back in 2004 (or maybe a bit earlier) and it feels almost the same as back then. Installing the thing still isn’t as easy as I had hoped, but inviting the first members wasn’t as hard.

Now as to what’s next? For now I just want to keep enjoying aviation photography in a forum form factor. I feel like a fish in the water when browsing the different topics, admiring great shots from the usual suspects. So as long as we keep sharing interesting shots, I’m happy.

If you have ideas about our forum; I’m all ears. And please feel free to invite people you think would be a good fit. I am not really going to promote our community for now.

Nice to be back, thanks for the heads up Roger! Hopefully we can get a slightly larger community feel going on here, shift the emphasis away from the hellsite that is Facebook.

Hey Swiss! Good to have you on here.

Re: community; It all depends on what the community wants it to be, as far as I’m concerned.

For me; I hope I can enjoy some awesome photography and who knows we’ll gather offline somewhere soon again. Would be nice to have a reunion of some sort.

On a broader perspective, I do think Facebook and the like are done for (I am usually a couple of years early with predictions like this, just as when I quit Fence Check, because of that same Facebook). I’m not sure this forum here is the answer, but it is an answer. At least for me.

Like I said before, right now it’s just a test to see how this platform works and how the community likes it, if at all. Any feedback is appreciated.

So this is why I think Facebook and other “social” media are done for. It will end up being AI generated drivel fed by AI generated drivel. Bots replying to bots.

Nice to see the old users taking back their original usernames too
