Tiger markings on the TMOTA 2001 hosts, the CO ANG and the 79th FS flagship at Buckley ANGB in August 2001. This was the inaugural TMOTA and we just happened to be on a midwest USA trip at the same time, having heard about it from Pete Greengrass’ mate in Switzerland and got invited along for three days. Fun times that led to great contacts and invites to the next two TMOTAs.
TMOTA 2003 was hosted by the winners in 2001, RCAF 410TFTS “Cougars” at Cold Lake. Weather played havoc with this one but still a great week, we were even in our own ‘Tiger Team’ of photographers and got to take part in the Tiger Games including pulling a CF-18A by rope!
The last good TMOTA was hosted by the Bold Tigers at Mountain Home in Oct 2005, We had a great week at the base covering every aspect of the exercise and I got to fly on the tanker three days in a row. Sadly my attempts at getting the TMOTA tiger specials all air-to-air failed but I’m not complaining, the PA team there at the time couldn’t have been nicer.
The last TMOTA was hosted by the 79th FS at Shaw AFB in 2007. By then the great CO of the Tigers, who I was by then a good friend of, had moved on and the new boss wasn’t interested in something he’d inherited, he lacked the tiger spirit! They went through the motions but because of real world ops some units like Colorado pulled out. In the end nobody won outright or took on the host duties for 09 and it died out. I never bothered going but I did get some images for the TMOTA website Pete and I had set up.
Wonderful coverage Kev, great to see these images again (and some I hadn’t seen before). Love the people shots (as always).
Awesome shot Rog…

Thanks @DiscoDaz ! There I was, laying on the freezing ground, speed bumping this shot…
hey, the things we do for this hobby.
I remember laying in this long, very wet grass at coningsby to get what I thought would be an awesome shot of a typhoon on finals through these reeds. photo was crap, all I got was pneumonia

Brilliant, Roger. I do love seeing the nato tiger liveries.
